Advanced Estimating Courses

Many graduates of our Blueprint Reading and Estimating courses have asked for more advanced courses focusing in specific specialty areas.

The Institute for Design and Construction in partnership with the American Society of Professional Estimators have created three advanced estimating courses to meet that demand:

Electrical Estimating for the Non-electrical Estimator

Learn how to estimate costs for electrical components of a construction project which generally comprise 12-15% of the total construction costs of a project.

This 12-hour class is designed for estimators who are not electricians. It will improve your electrical estimating skill and give you a better understanding of how electrical estimates are prepared during the conceptual, planning, budgeting and bidding stages.

You will practice by preparing complete and thorough electrical cost estimates emphasizing special estimating problems for electrical construction for commercial, industrial and large multi-family applications.

You will learn about order of magnitude, square foot, assemblies and unit price estimating.

Prerequisites: This is an advanced course requiring knowledge of blueprint reading and basic knowledge of estimating skills and techniques. Students who have completed three levels of the Blueprint Reading and Estimating courses, or have equivalent knowledge through experience, will be ready for this class.

$239 - 12 hours

HVAC Estimating for the Non-mechanical Estimator

Learn how to estimate costs for mechanical components of a construction project and their impact on other building systems.

This seminar will give you an overview of mechanical systems (CSI Division 15). You will learn a method of simple take-off and cost estimating to allow you, a non-mechanical estimator, to assemble a cost estimate for different mechanical systems.

Note: Plumbing (CSI Division 15400) and Fire Protection (CSI Division 15300) are covered in a separate course, Plumbing Estimating for Non-Plumber Estimators.

Plumbing Estimating for the Non-plumber Estimator

Learn how to estimate costs for both plumbing components and fire protection componants of a construction project including relative costs and the system's impact on other building systems.

This seminar will give you an overview of plumbing and fire sprinkling systems (CSI Division 15400 & 15300). You will learn a method of simple take-off and cost estimating to allow you, a non-plumber estimator, to assemble a cost estimate for different plumbing and sprinkling systems.

Note: Other CSI Division 15 parts are covered in the course, HVAC Estimating for Non-Mechanical Estimators
